In the daily crossword on nine.com.au there are a couple clues that are very odd indeed.
To begin with 5 Across says “Peace” in Palestine. The operative part of the clue is the word Peace in inverted commas.
The answer is the word Salam which according to Wikipedia has nothing to do with Palestine per se; it is an Arabic word.
And then there is 4 Down which says “Forbidden” in Fez. In this case the operative part of the clue is the word Forbidden.
Why didn’t the clue say “Forbidden” in Islam? A fez just happens to be a hat but coming with a capital F the clue probably was referring to the city in Morocco with that name.
All very obscure!
