A political scientist says Papua New Guinea’s move to open an embassy in Jerusalem may influence other Pacific nations to recognise the city.
PNG will reportedly open its embassy, first announced by Israel in February, next week — a move breaking with most countries, which have their embassies in Tel Aviv.
Israel claims Jerusalem as its capital, while the Palestinians claim the city’s eastern parts as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
