Coalition backbencher George Christensen has compared an Australian nationalist group’s attempts to bring US white supremacist Mike Enoch to Australia for a conference with the actions of Islamic groups who invite hate preachers to speak at their events.
Mr Enoch, whose real name is Michael Peinovich, is a blogger who uses his website and podcast to advocate anti-Semitism and white supremacy, with references to Hitler and Holocaust denial and attacks on Jews and African-Americans.
Australian group The Dingoes, an anonymous online community of white nationalists, have invited Mr Enoch to speak at their Sydney “DingoCon” conference in Sydney in July.
Mr Christensen said he regretted having been part of a Dingoes’ podcast in February, and said that “like radical Islamic sheiks who come here to spread messages of hate”, Enoch should not be let into Australia.
