Penny Wong urged to have ‘understanding’ towards Israel over misdirected strikes

Executive Council of Australian Jewry Co-CEO Alex Ryvchin says a “degree of understanding” is expected from the Australian government towards Israel.

Foreign Minister Penny Wong expects Israel to ensure there is a “full, transparent investigation” and “full accountability” after their attack on aid workers in Gaza killed Australian Zomi Frankcom.

Israel has admitted the attack on the vehicles belonging to the World Central Kitchen was a tragic mistake, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu saying Israel will do everything for this not to happen again.

“Israel is fighting in extremely difficult conditions,” Mr Rvychin told Sky News host Chris Kenny.

“This is urban warfare with a terrorist force and these things happen.

“I understand where the Foreign Minister is coming from but we also need that understanding towards what Israel is going through.”
