Glick’s bakery: Mendel Glick, who brought bagels to Melbourne, passes away

PEOPLE are taking to social media to mourn the death of Mendel Glick, who founded the bakery chain Glick’s.

The Polish-born holocaust survivor, credited for bringing European-style boiled bagels to Melbourne, died at the age of 92.

The Glick’s Facebook page made the sad announcement earlier this week.

“We are devastated to advise that Mr Glick has passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family,” it said.

All Glick’s shops, including in Balaclava, Caulfield South, Bentleigh and Malvern, were closed during the funeral, which took place on July 23 at Springvale Cemetery.
