Gaza: The West Bank-based Palestinian Prime Minister stepped onto the Gaza Strip on Monday for the most ambitious attempt yet to end the 10-year rift between rival Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas which has controlled the territory since seizing in a civil war.
At a welcome ceremony, Rami al-Hamdallah said his unity government would begin assuming control of Gaza’s administrative affairs, as well as “security responsibilities and responsibility for crossings and borders”.
