As the 196-member UN General Assembly meets in emergency session, those inclined to join in another round of vitriolic condemnation of the US decision to recognise the reality that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel and where the US embassy is to be located should think again. For good reason, President Donald Trump means business with his warning that those contributing to the diatribe could end up losing their share of the $US25 billion ($32.6bn) pot of gold Washington generously distributes each year in economic and military assistance. As Mr Trump’s UN ambassador Nikki Haley says: “At the UN we’re always asked to do more and give more. So when we make a decision (to implement) the will of the American people (about where) to locate our embassy, we don’t expect those we have helped to target us.”
