Easter reflections from Dubbo’s Ray Tickle about his visit to Israel

ubbo’s Ray Tickle shares some of the moments and his reflections about his “life altering” study trip to Israel in November.

The Reverend Ray Tickle is an honorary deacon assistant in the Dubbo Anglican church.

The aim of my trip to Israel was to study the “,” between the birth and death of Jesus. In the Apostle’s Creed we read “born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate”.

Having been awarded a scholarship from the Roff-Silvester trust to study at St George’s Anglican College in East Jerusalem, I left Australia in early November 2017 with the aim of not only studying but walking where Jesus walked and praying where he prayed.

One of the first things I was taught is that Israel is not the Holy Land, but it is the land of the Holy One, that simple statement helped me focus on what it was I was there to study, the man from Nazareth.

There were students from NZ, USA, Canada, UK, Africa and me as the lone Australian.

Our lecturers came from Wales, Canada and Israel each with incredible knowledge on their specific subjects.

Our study started with the birth of Jesus and finished with the crucifixion.

After having had a lecture on the geography of Israel and the reason for the birth taking place in that small village we travelled to Bethlehem.
