Israeli singer Netta Barzilai’s Japanese-themed performance at Eurovision 2018 has been a source of debate on social media, with some accusing her of cultural appropriation.
The popular winner of Eurovision 2018 has been accused of cultural appropriation following her Japanese-themed performance in Lisbon on Saturday.
Netta Barzilai, one of the bookmakers’ favourites, won the 63rd Eurovision Song Contest with her song Toy, which was inspired by the #MeToo movement.
But some social media users accused her of “blatant” cultural appropriation for wearing a kimono and performing in front of Japanese maneki-neko cat toys.
