The United States has opened its embassy in Jerusalem with American officials speaking about peace in Israel.
But as the ceremony took place, violent protests intensified along the border between Gaza and Israel.
It saw Israeli forces open fire killing 55 Palestinians, including six children, while more than 2,500 have been injured.
It was the bloodiest single day for Palestinians since the Gaza conflict in 2014.
Meanwhile, Israel and the White House say responsibility for deaths in Gaza rests squarely with the Islamist group Hamas, which runs Gaza.
The US, Israel and Australia have proscribed Hamas as a terrorist organisation.
