Australian survivors of Hitler’s death camps take aim at Facebook

Jewish Holocaust survivors living in Australia are demanding a reversal of Mark Zuckerberg’s decision to allow Holocaust denial on Facebook.

Seven Melbourne residents aged between 90 and 96 are backing a campaign from Anti-Defamation Commission chairman Dvir Abramovich calling on Mr Zuckerberg to rethink his position.

Dr Abramovich, who plans to write to Mr Zuckerberg, directly appealed to the Facebook co-founder, asking him to “listen to these survivors who have suffered unimaginable suffering at the hands of the Nazis and who lost family members in the death camps”. Dr Abramovich said the Facebook chief executive’s “disturbing and insulting words are hurting them and trampling on their feelings” after Mr Zuckerberg defended the rights of Facebook users to publish Holocaust denial posts, saying he didn’t “think they’re intentionally getting it wrong”.

Dr Abramovich said Mr Zuckerberg “will not get a free pass on this issue”. He is asking major international Holocaust museums around the world to join his campaign, including Yad Vashem in Jerusalem and the US Holocaust Museum in Washington.
