World’s oldest beer discovered next to ancient burial site

Researchers may have discovered the world’s oldest beer, scraping boozy residue out of an ancient cave in Haifa, Israel.

The believe the brew is roughly 13,000 years old.

And that makes the caves the world’s oldest brewery.

According to a media statement from Stanford University, we have the Natufian people, a group of hunter-gatherers in the eastern Mediterranean, to thank for giving us beer.

Stanford professor Li Liu led a research team to into Raqefet Cave trying to learn more about what these ancient people ate.

They weren’t expecting their ground-breaking boozy discovery.
