Israel targets Iran in Syria airstrikes, killing 11

The Israeli military has carried out air strikes on Iranian targets in Syria in a series of retaliatory exchanges, with reports 11 people were killed including two Syrians. The strikes were made in response to a surface-to-surface rocket fired by Iranian forces that was intercepted over the Golan Heights by Israel’s Iron Dome defence system. Israel responded with rare daylight raids near the Damascus International Airport. The military says the targets included munitions storage facilities, an intelligence site and a military training camp. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he won’t let Tehran aggression go unanswered, as tensions rise between Israel and Syria, and its key backer Iran.
