Israeli politician accused of interfering in Leifer extradition

Police in Israel have recommended charging the country’s deputy health minister with bribery, fraud and breach of trust for interfering in the extradition case of a former Australian school principal charged with sexual assault.

Yaakov Litzman is accused of trying to influence state psychologists who were assessing whether alleged sex abuser Malka Leifer was mentally fit to be extradited to Australia.

Mr Litzman is from the same Jewish ultra-orthodox sect as Malka Leifer, but denies trying to stop her extradition on religious grounds.
