Since coming to office, the Trump administration has obliged its Zionist sponsors by recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, blessing Israel’s annexation of occupied lands in Palestine and Syria. They have cut aid to the Palestinians, withdrawn from the Iran nuclear deal, designated the IRGC as a terrorist organisation, assassinated General Soleimani, all while ramping up sanctions and hostility against Iran.
This sure looks like Israel enjoys undue influence over US foreign policy, especially as it pertains to the Middle East. Together, Israel and the US, with much of the West in tow, routinely flout longstanding international norms, such as the ban on torture – and they do so with impunity. In the process they demonstrate contempt for the rest of humanity and advance an international disorder based on force.
This may seem like a win for Israel, but it comes at the expense of America’s standing as an impartial arbiter of the Middle East peace process and its prospect for a two state solution. Worse still, it undermines the rule of international law and weakens the very institutions that were established to resolve conflicts and defend human rights around the world.
