The Australia/Israel & Jewish Affairs Council’s Jamie Hyams says the Abraham Accords between Bahrain, the UAE, Sudan, and Morocco have shown “the Palestinians don’t hold the key to peace in the Middle East”.
“The Abraham Accords actually forced Palestine to look at a different strategy because their recalcitrance proved to not be working,” he said. Mr Hyams said because Donald Trump was regarded as such an anathema to “everything that’s good about America by the Democrats”, the knee-jerk reaction by the Biden Administration was to “undo everything he did”.
As the Biden Administration moves away from Trump-era foreign policy, Mr Hyams warned “a nuclear-armed Iran is unequivocally an existential threat to Israel”. “There has been a softening toward the Palestinian Authority and a hardening toward Israel and toward other countries in the Middle East such as Saudi Arabia,” he said.
“Benjamin Netanyahu has stated on many occasions he will not allow Iran to become nuclear-armed. Obviously, there are various initiatives to stop that from happening.”
