Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation research associate Ran Porat says the current crisis unfolding in Israel can be blamed on an attempt by Hamas terrorists to “grab power”.
“The loss of life is very saddening in Israel all across the board, but there is only one actor to be blamed for it and that’s 100 per cent Hamas terrorists that operate from Gaza,” he said.
Mr Porat told Sky News the conflict began after the leader of the Palestinian Authority called off an election because he saw he was going to lose it to Hamas.
“Hamas understood that they were going to lose the opportunity to grab power through the elections and they were looking for another way to grab power and that’s why they started this attack,” he said.
“They also … miscalculated the Israeli response, they were thinking about a few rockets, maybe a couple of days and this would all be over”.
