One Nation Senators Pauline Hanson and Malcolm Roberts will address a conservative Jewish group next month on the “dangers” of Muslim migration to Australia.
But the event might struggle to find a home, with Glen Eira City Council distancing itself from the event late on Thursday.
The pair was invited to speak to a soon-to-be launched group, the “Independent Jewish Council of Australia”, on a range of topics including repealing Section 18C of the Racial Discrimination Act, which contain legal protections against hate speech.
The group’s founder – provocative gym owner Avi Yemini, who has made headlines for recruiting gym members to fight with Israeli defence forces, and offering self-defence training with firearms, and who has called for capsicum spray to be legalised for civilians – told Fairfax Media that there were few avenues for conservative Jewish people to hear alternative views.
