Out of the Shadows: Rediscovering Jewish music and theatre brings new life to rediscovered music and theatrical works by Jewish refugee artists from around the world.

These cultural objects were stored in archives, hidden in attics, or bequeathed to family members, objects that were created under enormous oppression and are now seeing the light of day in this new festival.

Artistic Curator Dr Joseph Toltz, Finnish-Scottish researcher Dr Simo Muir are in to talk about the plight of Jewish composers and musicians, finding lost manuscripts, plus a band of troubadours play a re-versioned folksong from a Finnish Yiddish cabaret.

Listen to the program on The Music Show on ABC radio.

Out of the Shadows: Rediscovering Jewish music and theatre runs concerts at the Conservatorium of Sydney and the Seymour Centre from August 5-13.
