Malka Leifer declared fit for extradition hearing in Israel

The mother of eight has been accused of abusing girls at the Adass Israel ultra-orthodox Jewish girls’ school over a decade ago. She faces 74 counts of child sex abuse.

Australia has sought to extradite Leifer since 2014 who has resisted on the basis the stress of the trial would aggravate poor mental health.

Jerusalem’s chief psychiatrist recommended to an Israeli court on Tuesday that Leifer was fit for the hearing, the ABC reports.

Dassi Erlich, who has alleged Leifer began abusing her when she was 15, wrote about her relief on Facebook.

“Big sigh of relief!” Dassi Erlich, who has accused Leifer of abusing her, posted on her Facebook page.
