BILL Shorten has dodged questions about a federal Labor MP who has been accused of taking a ‘sickie’ in a sitting week of parliament to travel overseas.
The Opposition leader today refused to comment on reports the Member for Melbourne Ports Michael Danby had travelled to Israel in a sitting week of Parliament after telling the party leaders he was unwell.
The Australian reported Mr Danby attended a counter-terrorism conference in Israel last September, but this trip was not official business and he was not representing Australia.
“I’m not going to comment about a person’s personal medical issues,” Mr Shorten said today.
“The man gave us a medical certificate,” he said.
“I’m not a doctor. I’m not going to start second-guessing his medical prognosis and condition.”
